Help Hopefield!

I only recently discovered that Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Brentwood, Essex existed when I was scouring my local area for sanctuaries that I could potentially volunteer my time to. It is a place of refuge for abused and unwanted animals, a second chance for them to live a happy and fulfilling life.

I visited the sanctuary a couple of weeks ago and am due to go back tomorrow. I loved being there, it didn’t seem like a sad or morbid place but somewhere of hope as their name suggests. I’ve become a bit smitten by this little haven, scrolling through their entire instagram and eagerly awaiting their new pics. I had planned to write a post about what an amazing place it is, to spread awareness and hopefully get them some more visitors, donators or volunteers but I just hadn’t gotten round to it yet.

But suddenly it’s 9.20pm on a Saturday night and I am angrily striking my keyboard with a heavy heart! My husband just came into the living room to show me a facebook post which has sent my blood boiling. Hopefield, a non-profit charity, has been broken into. This in itself is awful enough but these disgusting human beings not only broke into the sanctuary, ransacked the cafe and stole, they also abused the already traumatized animals. WHO DOES THIS?! I’m honestly baffled. These animals have already been through so much pain and suffering, they finally get to a place in their life where they are being cared for, being treated with the respect they deserve and learning to trust humans again only to be failed by them once again!

So this post has changed from the lovely, cuddly, happy version of the sanctuary that I fell in love with and is instead triggered into a plea for help. It’s time like these that we need to rally around and do what we can. If this post reaches anyone that can do anything then at least I will have tried. The sanctuary need donations, they need companies that are willing to help make it a safer place for the animals, they need people to spread their message. They also need help in trying to get justice, so if anyone has any information on who did this and how to get a prosecution then please get in touch with the sanctuary. They have reached out to the police but unfortunately the animals don’t seem to be viewed as living beings and rather as property.

Please share this post and help Hopefield get back on their feet! Let’s show these scum what an amazing community we have and that we won’t stop just because of their childish, chilling actions.

Peace and Love xoxo

I am in tears Laura. I honestly find this sort of thing so hard to deal with, and sometimes feel so small and totally helpless. For everything I try and do for animals it makes me realise just how huge the battle is when you get idiotic kids who have clearly been dragged up void of all morals and empathy doing something like this for fun! I think the youths who did this should be named and shamed and I’m appalled that the police felt it was a civil matter! More than the trespassing it was about their abuse of the animals which isn’t a civil issue. The police should offer more support!

It was so heart breaking and I’m not 100% how it’s been resolved now (but not well enough in my opinion). Luckily hopefield have amazing support and now fully equipped with cameras and security and Nathan the goat is doing fine 🙂
