Bar Cart of Dreams

I’m sure you’ve seen this bar cart trend EVERYWHERE at the moment, Zoella has a particularly beautiful one, so with absolute interiors envy I decided that our flat would not be complete without a cart of our own!

Commence frantic internet search mode and total dismay at how bloody expensive they are. Seriously who has like £200 to spend on the bar cart alone without even getting anything to put on it – not me!

My best friend became my savior in this search and urged me to try Gumtree. Within a day I had found the perfect cart and got said friend to pick it up from Croydon for me.

This beauty cost me all of £20! I KNOW RIGHT! I’ve been asked so many times if it’s from Oliver Bonas and I cannot lie to you, I feel pretty damn smug about it.

I forgot to take a picture of the original cause I was so excited to get my hands on it as soon as it was dropped off but the “tray” parts were originally wood. A couple of years ago I had bought some marble contact paper to use for blog photos which was absolutely perfect for covering the wood which really wasn’t doing it for me.

Now to decorate!! 🙂

Obviously there’s alcohol on there and tbh these are just bottles of what we have at the time there’s no real science behind it or aesthetic motive.

Then onto my absolute faves! The pineapples and the bottle opener. I am literally in love with these!!! At the moment we have a large gold pineapple and a smaller copper pineapple but I think we need the smaller silver pineapple to make it a set right? OR another copper one? Let me know what you think but there has to be 3 cause them the rules. The pineapples are from an online store called Iwantoneofthose, the smaller one was a house warming gift and I bought the bigger one myself. I have drank out of both of these and have never felt so cool. I’ve been told they can also be used as cocktail shakers but I am yet to give this a go.

The bottle opener was such an extravagant purchase, especially with shipping BUT GUYS….. LOOK AT IT! It’s a rose quartz, gold foil bottle opener, I mean do you need anything more in life? Every bottle you open will be filled with positive, loving energy and that my friends… well that is priceless (have I justified it yet?!). This little ray of sunshine was from Anthrapology and I really recommend buying in store rather than online so it doesn’t seem too costly. (Although it looks like its now sold out in the UK, the link I’ve used is to the US site.)

Soooo how cute are these little cactus glassses!!!! These were a house warming present from my best friend and they could not be more perfect for the bar cart. She went on my pinterest to get inspo for my presents – WHAT A BABE!!!! but yeah, these are from Oliver Bonas and they make me happy.

I feel like you need a plant on your bar cart! A little greenery to be like hey I’m cool and arty (not someone trying to disguise a drinking problem with pretty stuff.) Because I don’t yet trust myself with real plants this is a fake sprig from New Look. I got 2 but it didn’t look right so one is in our bedroom.

Okay, next shelf. We have a mini fridge in the spare room stocked with cans of drink and this just shows the selection of what we have so you can decide before you go grab yourself a cold one. There are also some spare glasses under there, most of which are Jon’s whiskey glasses but there’s also 2 Kilner jug glasses which I love!

And last but not least, the wine shelf. You may recognise this copper wine rack from my Homesense post and I’m so psyched that it fits perfectly on here. Funnily enough, wine doesn’t seem to spend much time on there till it’s whisked into the fridge and into our mouths – oops!

So there it is, my pride and joy! One of my absolute favorite things in the whole flat (apart from Jon and Lola of course buy I mean, it comes close!) There’s still a couple more things I want to add on including another pineapple but mainly this: cocktail jigger/spoon set from Oliver Bonas – all the heart eye emoji’s here!

Let me know if you have something similar at home, I’d love to see it! 🙂

Peace and love xoxo

Finding Home…

As you will probably know from my Homesense post, Jon and I bought a flat. We are officially full fledged grown ups and after living in said flat for 2 weeks now, I could not be happier!

The first time I viewed the flat it just felt like home, I could see us living there. I could see the potential it had and I already started planning in my head what could go where.

I’ve always loved interiors, even as a kid. I used to have this program on my PC where I would design different rooms in my imaginary home. Me and my step sister would also play this game where we had a budget and would have to kit out our homes using the argos catalogue – i know right, you’re jealous of how cool I was hahaha!

I moved out when I was about 19 and starting living in a house share which was fully furnished. Jon and I then moved into a flat together which again was a fully furnished place. This made sense to us at the time because we didn’t have the money to do it up ourselves but after a while I started to hate the old tattered furniture more and more.

I have never had the chance to live out that dream of making somewhere my own. I mean you can try to make a furnished place home, and you do to an extent with pictures etc, but it’s nothing compared to having somewhere that’s entirely your taste!

Now having moved into our own flat Jon and I have been able to discuss furniture, envision colour schemes and buy whatever the hell we want and let me tell you it is SO refreshing! I mean we do have totally different tastes which is awkward but I think because I’m more passionate about it I have taken the lead. Obviously you compromise on stuff and it’s handy because Jon is more bothered about how practical things are where as I want things to look good so together it should be perfect 🙂

If you’re moving I  100% recommend unpacking as soon as possible! Get that place feeling like your home ASAP.  I couldn’t stand being surrounded by boxes and got the majority done in the first couple of days, taking the empty boxes to the tip to give us a nice clear space. We still have a few more bits to sort out but will need to wait till the furniture we’ve ordered arrives cause at the moment, it doesn’t have a home.

But we do! We have found our home in this lovely little flat where we will make lots of brand new and exciting memories! I thought I would be really sad to leave our old flat, it was the first place we had lived together, Jon proposed to me in the living room, I planned our wedding there, so many happy times. But it isn’t till you move somewhere that fills your heart with joy that you realise none of that matters! you still have those memories and you will hold them dear but this is a fresh start and an exciting new chapter.

As I write this I have my laptop propped up on our bay window in the bedroom, watching a squirrel run across the fence of our car park and that to me is perfect. It’s not the most amazing flat in the world, but it’s ours and we love it!

Peace and Love xoxo

Homesense event #chelmsfordloves

Big exciting news ahoy!!! Soooooooo me and Jon have bought a flat! That’s right we are officially grown ups, marriage and a mortgage – who’d have thunk it.

I’m going to talk more about the whole buying a property saga another time but spoiler alert: most stressful thing ever. I’ve only just lost the twitch in my eye (not even joking.)

Today’s post however, is all about the glorious shop that is Homesense * hallelujah * all the lord praising emoji’s here. Obviously with our exciting news, an invitation to spend the evening at Homesense could not have come at a better time and my home wear senses were well and truly tingling on the walk to Riverside Retail Park last Thursday.

I love home wear, I love interiors, I love the amount of Pinterest boards I have dedicated to this, so you can imagine how excited I am after living in a fully furnished property for 3 years with the oldest most tired furniture ever.

Now my Homesense purchases probably won’t blow you away but I didn’t want to make any big life decisions, like what laundry basket we should have, without Jon present (mainly cause he recently called me selfish for designing our entire flat in my mind and not consulting him on anything – oops). But let me tell you, the things I did get actually excite me SO much… it will soon become clear that I’m almost the wrong side of 25!

For those of you who have never been to Homesense, firstly – have you been living under a rock?! And secondly, it’s basically the TK MAXX home section but on a bigger scale… in fact that’s exactly what it is. There’s so much variety from rugs to actual furniture to trinkets to food. You could literally kit out most of a house with this stuff! And like TK MAXX home it’s all at a discounted rate, I mean some stuff is still a little pricey but it’s a bargain compared to its RRP.

I know you’re all dying to see what I got so here it goes…

The Plate Rack
This is actually what I went searching for as soon as I got in the shop. I am sick of my favourite plate being at the bottom of the pile and having to crash about trying to get at it. Now all of that is in the past as you can grab whatever plate you want with ease – I sound like some weird tv commercial here but trust me it’s a life changer and cost like £5. It even got me doing the washing up as soon as I walked back into the flat cause I wanted to use it asap!

The Wine Rack
I picked this up a couple of times and put it back but I couldn’t get it out my head so I made a last minute dash to grab it before I headed to the till. I mean come on, it’s a copper wine rack – what blogger can go through life without one of these? The only thing that’s slightly annoying is that it has to lay on its side and I kind of wish it was a stand up one but I’ll get over it cause it’s beautiful. Who would have thought that some shaped copper would bring so much joy?! I also have dreams of a zoella style bar cart (if I can find a cart I like that doesn’t cost the earth) and this would go on the bottom tray perfectly 🙂

The Mattress Cover
Me and Jon have been sleeping on a crappy old second hand bed for 3 years now. God knows who has graced that mattress before us but in a fully furnished home you cannot get rid of anything (it’s terribly frustrating.) On Tuesday we headed to Dreams and made our first purchase for the flat – a new bed!!!!! It arrives next Thursday and we are BUZZING! So because beds are bloody expensive I decided to get this mattress cover (which is cheaper than the one they tried to sell me in Dreams – also Dreams is basically next door to Homesense so top tip shop around). It’s hypo-allergenic, waterproof, machine washable… all the things you want it to be to keep that mattress fresh.

Epsom Salts and Lavender Candle
Another thing we’ve done without for 3 years is a bath. No we aren’t smelly little cretins, we had a shower silly.

Getting home from work on a Friday night I literally pine for a long relaxing bath. I go to lush and lust after the bath bombs. Now my friends, now I get to join in on all the bath time fun and I know I’ve said I’m excited like a gazillion times in this post but guess what THIS GIRLS EXCITED!

To mark the occasion I treated myself to a little bag of Epsom salts (there was a huge bag in there for £9.99 which is great but it was heavy so I went for the little one for like £3) and a lavender candle which I plan to use for relaxing evening baths to wind down. I was actually gifted a bag of Epsom salts from Westlab at the #bigbloggerexpo and I left it at my mums (cause she has a bath) and planned to test them out there BUT she used them all before I got a chance lol classic mum! So I have repurchased. I’ve heard great things including its properties for debloat and muscle relaxing (great for after the gym) so I look forward to my first Epsom bath. They can also be used in moon rituals if you’re into that.

So yeah these are my super grown up purchases 🙂 look at me being all practical and stuff. I literally cannot wait to move (on Monday!!!) and I will definitely be hitting up Homesense again, although next time I will take Jon and be like LOOK AT ALL THIS COOL STUFF LET’S GET IT ALL! It’s like a one stop shop for your home needs which I love, ain’t nobody got time for 5 different stores.

Please tell me you love Homesense as much as me so we can be pals, talk about home wear together and share our ever growing interior Pinterest boards!

Homesense very kindly gifted me a voucher for the evening however, I obviously spent more cause it’s me! If you’re a Chelmsfordian like myself get your bums to Riverside Retail Park – you won’t regret it (although your bank balance might haha.)

Peace and love xoxo

Home comforts & Bed spread favourites…

If you keep up to date with my blog (here) or watch my YouTube channel (here) you may have noticed that I’ve gone a bit crazy for home wear lately!

My fiancé and I live in a fully furnished flat which means we cannot get rid of any existing furniture. Unfortunately for us, most of the pieces in the flat have seen better days! I longingly trawl through pinterest on the regs looking at beautiful homes and dreaming of the day that I too can live in a pinterest worthy crib!

I definitely have an emotional connection to my living space. Like if it’s a mess I feel as though I’m failing at life and why is everything so rubbish all the time? However, flip this round, make it tidy and clean and I suddenly become a power woman set to take on the world! (Does anyone else get like that?)

This weekend happened to be one of those times where I had a proper clear out – I de cluttered my flat and therefore my life and boy do I feel like a whole new person!

Most of my recent homely additions have gone in the lounge; I think this is because its a room that we spend a lot of time in and also where any guests would congregate should they pay us a visit. (Got to be the hostess with the mostess and all that!) However, despite all my efforts being placed there, I feel like I have neglected the most important room; the bedroom!

This is where the magic happens…….. sleep! 🙂  I cannot be the only girl who loves nothing more than a full nights, undisturbed, beauty sleep?! Not only is this pure bliss but it is also extremely important for your health and even aids weight loss!

In order to catch those Z’s your bedroom needs to reflect your sleep needs; this is different for everyone, however I personally feel that it is important to have a calm and relaxing space. (I find the colour blue to be most effective, although we haven’t got round to painting yet!)

Now if the bedroom is the most important room then the bed is certainly the most important feature! Not just aesthetically but also for your sleep. Your bed needs to be of the utmost comfort. Pillows are particularly vital for this – getting the right pillow height, consistency and feel will ensure that you are out like a light as soon as your head hits them! (Pillows at Yorkshire Linen Co are known to be lovely and soft, perfect for that good night sleep!)

Everyone has a different “pillow formation” which suits their needs – my Fiancé is very strict with his! He has 4 pillows, all of varying depths which he basically builds a head fort with! On the other hand, a friend of mine opts for a maternity pillow (it’s a great spooning partner for any single gals out there – no back chat, just love!) I personally go for hypoallergenic pillows because my allergies flare up left right and centre and I need some solace in my sleep. (This works really well until the cat decides to sleep on them! #catmumproblems)

Whilst on the subject of pillows I’m going to throw a debate into the mix!! My friend from work once told me that she doesn’t sleep on the pillow that is covered with the case from a duvet set as this is just for show?? Does anyone else chuck this pillow off at night?! I definitely sleep on mine – YOLO!

Although I am yet to purchase a new one, I have had a bit of a duvet cover fetish of late! I can’t stop looking at them. I just love how they can completely change the feel of a room. So on that note I have decided to include a few of my faves here for you guys to check out …

Festive Favourites:

George at Asda – £10

I’ve included this as it is very similar to the cover I have on my bed at the moment, although we have last years version (see here). My whole flat is covered in various pin up girl paraphernalia so this vintage pin up set from George at Asda fits in perfectly!

B&M – £14.99

Absolutely love these simple yet effective Christmas covers – very shabby chic!

Yorkshire Linen – £14.99

I am so into the Nordic vibes at the moment! (Have you seen the new carrier bags from Paperchase??!! Oh lord they’re beautiful!) So it’s no surprise that these babies have made It onto my list. Although not strictly “Festive” they do give a wintery feel.

blue snowflake
Yorkshire Linen – £24.99

This set from Yorkshire Linen just screams cosy night in! I can imagine laying on these in my fluffy pjs and slippers watching a Christmas film with my cat and sipping on a hot chocolate with honey! (transport me here immediately please.)

George at Asda – £12

Again with the Nordic theme but a more simplistic style! Very blogger chic and would look perfect in those insta photos.

Everyday Bedding:

Yorkshire Linen – £21.99

This bed set makes me feel so summery I almost forget that it’s nearly Christmas! So crisp and fresh they make the perfect addition to any bedroom. (They also kind of match my TK MAXX dress – see here matching your bedcovers to your clothes… Living the dream!)

B&M – £14.99

This cover is just fact! My fiancé would totally agree with this.

Tesco – £13.00

Another cosy looking number – I just want to jump straight in! I love a checked pattern, very county which I am all for.

Yorkshire Linen – £16.99

LOVE LOVE LOVE these!! Big elephant fan and blue is my fave colour so it basically ticks all the boxes. Very boho ❤

Yorkshire Linen – £17.99

This set is particularly great for my bedroom as they will match my Buddha dream catcher which is above the bed!

Yorkshire Linen – £19.99

I don’t think I could personally get these sheets as my cat would freak out but how cute are they!!!

Sleep tight lovelies! 🙂

Peace and love xoxo

Home wear haul…

Having spent quite a lot of time in the flat recently, I decided to do a bit of a home wear haul, to brighten the place up a bit and to get ready for the wintery season.

Living in a fully furnished flat was initially a great choice for us as we didn’t have the money to buy new stuff however, now that I can afford new furniture … it’s doing my head in!!!

All the furniture we have is so old and falling apart, I spend hours trawling through pinterest boards of the perfect living spaces and weep into my cheesy pasta.

Anyway… On Monday my mum took me to B&M, the most amazing shop in the universe! It literally has everything you could ever want! Food, Home wear, furniture, seasonal products, toiletries, pet care … EVERYTHING!

Here’s what I purchased …

This lush red checkered blanket and duck egg pillows!

The blanket has made me feel so festive and is also super cosy, with a sheep skin style lining… perfect for those chilly nights.  The pillows are nice and plump so have not only been great to lay my head on but also ideal foot pillows for my cast, win win!

This lampshade ❤

So retro and I absolutely love it! However… Jon hates it, he doesn’t like the way it distributes the light in the room but I’m hoping that he is too lazy to swap it back and just gets used it it 🙂

Flower fairy lights.

I have been looking for these online for ages and could never find ones that I wanted but then I stumbled across these beauties for £2.99!!! This is more for the wedding but is making my living room look fancy until then! (Just need to find some batteries now.)

An adorable wooden owl.

Seriously! How cute it this little guy!!!! I hadn’t named him until this exact moment, so ladies and gentlemen….. MEET HAROLD! I have no method to this madness, I just feel like he looks like a Harold. He is now taking pew in my bathroom.

I really wanted some plants in my bathroom to brighten the place up a bit but i tend to kill plants (still not mastered this grown up skill yet!) So this find was so ideal! It is a fake lavender plant with a difference… it comes with lavender essential oil which you squeeze over he plant to make it smell FANTASTIC! Highly recommend! (Also considering Lola’s litter box is in the bathroom, anything sweet smelling is a massive plus!)

Anyone else LOVE B&M???? How are you making your home more festive this year?

Peace and love xoxo
