Things are changing

2018 is here people! And as much as yes it’s just another day in your life, I’m a sucker for the “fresh start” wipe the slate clean and “let’s fucking smash it” vibe.

2017 was a good year. Not great, not awful, just somewhere sitting neatly in the middle. My mental and physical health took a bit of a nose dive but I also had some amazing highlights.

Towards the end of 2017 however, I felt a shift in the way I perceive the world, my morals and the way I want to live my life so this is definitely going to seep into my 2018 and as such things round here are probably going to change slightly.

As I’ve mentioned a million times, I started this blog because I love to write! I then got sucked into the whole blog culture and have found myself creating some content that doesn’t feel totally me. I haven’t done this purposely and have always tried my best to be authentic but if I’m honest there are some posts which may have been swayed by what I think I SHOULD be posting, based on what everyone else is doing, rather than what I actually really care about.

This year however I want that to change. I want to post more about the things that really mean something to me, less go buy this dress and more let’s figure out how we can use less plastic. I want my blog to help people find veganism and learn to love food in a different way, I want it to make people think rather than mindlessly click a link to buy more crap they don’t need. And hey if this is how you run your blog then that’s cool too! There’s a place out there for that and you do you boo but for me, it doesn’t feel like my bag anymore.

Of course I won’t always get things right, I could have been misinformed or there may be angles I haven’t considered due to my personal privileges but if we as a society start to take people’s comments with a pinch of salt instead of projected ourselves into what they’ve said to the point where we become personally victimised, we would all be a lot happier – don’t you think? Obviously if someone is intending to cause offence then by all means bring that ship down! However if someone is just uneducated on a certain scope then maybe take them aside privately, slide into their DMs and give them a chance to correct themselves before you out them as some sort of demon. Let’s make 2018 the end of twitter drama’s and witch hunts!

So yeah, things will be changing slightly and if that’s not for you then I’d like to say a massive thank you for following me this far, it’s been an absolute pleasure 🙂 Alternatively if you’re ready to take this journey with me then LETS FREAKING SMASH 2018 TOGETHER! So happy to have you aboard!

Shall we start with some goals??? Ohhh go on then:

1. Give back

2. Vegan the shit out of life

3. Less tech more life

4. Less worry more love

5. Be happy

Now all of these can mean totally different things to different people so I’m going to break them down a bit to give you an idea of what they could mean for you…

1. Give back

Give to charity, whether that’s money, items or time.

Give back to the planet, being more conscious and eco friendly in our daily lives.

Give back to society, campaign in your local area, exercise your right to vote, pick up litter, put on community events.

Give back to people, go visit an elderly relative, offer to take someone’s dog for a walk, help a friend in need, pay it forward.

2. Vegan the shit out of life

Go vegan.

Speak up about veganism

Educate people

Provide feedback to companies

Share the delicious food you make on social media so people realise it’s not bland crap

Don’t be embarrassed or shy away from questions

Don’t be afraid to speak the truth

Support local vegan ventures

Support large corporations putting vegan products out there

3. Less tech more life

Have regular phoneless days/evenings

No tech before bed/first thing in the morning

Turn notifications off

No tech when with friends/family

Eat dinner at the table

Play board games

Get outside

Go on adventures

Look up – take it all in

Spend quality time together

Download the “moments” app to see how bad your addiction is and set yourself targets

4. Less worry more love

Don’t sweat the small stuff

Stop caring what other people think of you

Talk to yourself nicer

Self care

Self love

Appreciate what’s great about yourself

It doesn’t matter how you look or what you wear

Be a good person

Remember that everyone makes mistakes

Take risks

5. Be happy

Whatever this means for you! Live your best life, a life doing what you love, surrounded by supportive amazing people who boost you up.

Let go of negativity be that people, things or situations.

Unfollow accounts that make you feel like you’re not good enough.

Follow more of what you love. (For me this is cute AF animal accounts)

Now I’m not by any means saying that any one person should look to do all of these, I mean if you can then great but just being more conscious and making small changes will end up having a big impact!

I’m so excited for this new chapter and I hope you guys are too! If you have any questions or anything you think I should cover then please let me know!! At the moment my brain is geared towards veganism, being more eco and as always acne updates.

May this be the year we smash our goals and nail life!!

I really like your goals, and I hope to be a kinder person myself. Also, now that more than a year has passed since I went vegan myself, I feel more confident in speaking out about the cause itself, too!
I really need to get into the habit of letting go of technology at least for a part of the day. Thanks for the inspiration there!

I need to take my own advice… especially where technology is concerned x

thank you for your comment Evelyne (sorry it’s taken me so long to reply I’ve had an issue with seeing them). It’s amazing that you feel like you can now talk openly about something you’re passionate about – it can be hard to keep these things in. And totally agree about not using technology in the evenings – sleep would be so much better (but do I do it…. nope haha)

Great goals espesh the worry one and tech one. I’m finding living in this world pretty touch – and it’s so hard to shut off when you’re trying to promote your blog etc.

Thanks Kiri! I totally agree, I very rarely switch off and it’s something we all need to get better at.
