Everyone wants to be fit and healthy but the reality of it isn’t quite so glamorous… For a particularly lazy person like myself, fast food is the key to more “me time” – essentially laying in bed reading blogs or watching Netflix!
When it comes to being healthy I’ve found that it requires a lot more preparation, mainly because it tends to be more expensive.
Just before my engagement party I went through a spell of being super healthy and I became a regular at the gym (I would turn up for my second session of the day, to the same receptionist being like “back again?”) however it all seemed to go downhill from there! (think it had something to do with the entire cake I ate.)
I did manage to pick it back up again and maintain it for a while but being diagnosed with a torn tendon forced me to quit.
Most people would take this opportunity to focus more on their diet seeing as exercise was out the window …… But not me! I mean I’ve focussed on my diet, but in the complete opposite way to what I should have! I have consumed nothing but crap and probably put on about a stone!!! (I like to call it, insulation for the colder months).
With my operation looming (less than a week to go!) I’ve made a conscious decision to get back on the health wagon! I never go completely crazy with it but try to cut out unhealthy snacks, cut down my portions and introduce some better alternatives!
I’ve also subconsciously given up drinking. (Don’t panic it’s not forever!) it’s currently been 17 days. Basically I couldn’t drink cause I felt so rough, then I got over it and realised it had been almost two weeks since I’d consumed an alcoholic beverage… Madness! So I then consciously decided not to drink till after my op. This is handy cause alcohol is usually what ruins my healthy eating plan…. Salads and hangovers really don’t go together!
Taking all of this into consideration during my food shop on Monday, here’s what I picked up from tesco….
First up, breakfast! And back on an overnight oats hype! This time, with a difference…. I’m experimenting with chocolate milk rather than Greek yoghurt. (I actually wanted chocolate almond milk but they didn’t have any.)
Organic porridge oats
Instant oats – just add water (an emergency breakfast in case I forget to do mine.)
Whole meal pasta
Lighter extra mature cheddar
I already had some other staples at home so this was all I needed!! I’m just hoping I can stick to this more balanced diet!
Courgettie – courgette made into spaghetti using my new spiraliser!!! I had way too much fun spiralising courgette! One of the most satisfying meal preps I’ve come across.
I then added some red pesto and cheese because hello this is me here!
I’m skeptical about how filling this will be but its all about training the stomach, and brain, into a better way of living!
Wish me luck!!!!
